A Mini Biography of Funny-man Jimmy Carr


Jimmy Carr is an award-winning comedian who records live at such places as the London Bloomsbury Theatre. His acts are characterized by truly outrageous gags that many people would find offensive if there were not so expertly delivered with that characteristic ironic glint in his eyes. His dark humour and deadpan delivery has endeared him to many and it has won him many awards. These include LAFTA Awards 2008 for Best Stand Up, LAFTA Awards 2007  for Funniest Man, British Comedy Awards 2006 for Best Live Stand Up, Rose D’Or Nomination 2006 for Best Game Show (for his role in Distraction), and Royal Television Society Award Winner for Best On-Screen Newcomer 2003. He has had roles in 4 films; Alien Autopsy, Confetti, I Want Candy, and Telstar.

Jimmy was born James Anthony Patrick Carr on the 15th of September in 1972. The English-Irish humourist and comedian acts, writes, and presents on radio and TV. Jimmy was born to Patrick James ‘Jim’ who is a self-made millionaire and Nora Mary who has since passed on. Jimmy has 2 brothers, Colin and Patrick. He started schooling in the Burnham Grammar School in Buckinghamshire and the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe. He later joined Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. Jimmy Carr started off as a marketing executive for Shell towards the end of the 90s. Jimmy revealed that he had been a staunch Christian (and broke his virginity at 26 due to his faith), but he turned into an atheist after reading Richard Dawkins’s works.

Jimmy Carr wrote his first TV pilot for a short film at Pinewood (starring himself, Craig Charles, and Roy Dotrice). The Colour of Funny was a mockumentary and it was a vanity project for him. His rise to fame was brought about by the hosting of ‘Distraction and Your Face or Mine?’ which were successful Channel 4 game shows as well as the ’100s series of programmes’ for Channel 4, among them 100 Worst Pop Records, and 100 Worst Britons. Carr’s writing includes material for Lily Savage and Frank Skinner, Bo’ Selecta! on channel 4, and Meet Ricky Gervais, also on channel 4.
